James Young joined the Monmouth Women's Basketball staff in June 2017, and was elevated to Associate Head Coach on December 8, 2017.
In 2018-19, Young helped lead the Hawks to their highest-ever MAAC finish (4th). Monmouth accumulated a 14-17 (9-9 MAAC) overall record and advanced to the MAAC Semifinals for the second time in six seasons. After securing a first round bye, the Hawks defeated Canisius in the MAAC Quarterfinals, 64-53.
Young carries a wealth of coaching experience on the Jersey Shore, with his most recent stint at Red Bank Regional High School as both the Head Women's Basketball Coach and teacher.
While at Red Bank, Young led the team to the state or conference playoffs in all seven seasons, and his 2016-17 squad had the most wins at the school since 1998.
Prior to coaching at Red Bank, Young was the head coach at Rumson-Fair Haven and oversaw a team that qualified for the state and conference playoffs in both seasons he was at the helm. In his first season at Rumson-Fair Haven, the team increased their win total by 13.
In 2009, Young founded the Maroon and White Youth Basketball Camp where he managed all aspects of the experience.
